LONDON DESIGN FAIR
21-24 September 2023

Al Ghadeer Emirati Crafts, a not-for-profit organisation, which empowers UAE-based women through traditional handicrafts in collaboration with Loreta Bilinskaite-Monie, a UAE-based artist and designer presents the Tirhal collection. Consisting of five sculptural benches, the collection is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Emirati design. The benches are crafted from wood and covered with sheep’s wool, which has been woven using a technique called the Sadu, traditionally practised by Bedouin women. The colours of the pieces, meanwhile, represent the natural blue, green, indigo, and burnt orange shades found in traditional tribal life in the Arabian Peninsula. The Tirhal collection preserves the heritage of the craftswomen, helping to deliver a new chapter for Emirati design.
